How We Wrote 'Left at the Lake' Part 4
The band (Jen, Jez, Rob and Paul) convened in Bristol on 6 May 2023 to record the song and the other tracks on the 'Left at the Lake' E.P. Jez wrote the lyrics and came up with the vocal melody on the day. The lyrics were based on a 10 page document of reference material provided by Paul. This version is as recorded on the day i.e. before mixing and without overdubs, panning or effects applied.

I recall the heady scent of spring hyacinths

It's darker, almost supernatural
Can't quite determine what's factual
Floating heavy through the foliage
Bright white shadows at the dark lake's edge

The faintest little whisper of a godless prayer
Autumn water, still reflecting
Chattering teeth with arms outstretching

Several times I've doubted my own mind
Even worse is you denied
My existence, the blissful disregard
Waiting for forever for my last hurrah
